🏸 How to Choose Your Squash Racket
Choosing a squash racket is about much more than a brand or design. Several key factors directly influence your performance and comfort.
1️⃣ Racket Weight
Weight affects manoeuvrability and power:
- Lightweight rackets (90–115 g)
➜ More manoeuvrable, ideal for a fast and technical playing style.
➜ Suitable for intermediate to advanced players. - Medium-weight rackets (120–130 g)
➜ A good balance of power and control.
➜ Recommended for most players. - Heavier rackets (130 g and above)
➜ Greater stability and natural power.
➜ Suitable for powerful players or those looking for greater forgiveness.
2️⃣ Balance
- Head Heavy: provides greater power on shots.
- Even Balance: offers excellent versatility.
- Head Light: provides greater control and manoeuvrability.
👉 The right balance depends on your playing style: attacking, technical, or all-round.
3️⃣ Head Size
- Larger head size (Midplus / Oversize)
➜ Larger sweet spot and greater forgiveness.
➜ Ideal for developing your game. - More compact head size
➜ Greater precision and control.
➜ Popular with advanced and competitive players.
🎾 How to Choose Your Squash String
Strings are often underestimated, yet they play a major role in feel, power, and control.
1️⃣ String Type
- Power-oriented strings
➜ Greater elasticity for easier power generation.
➜ Ideal for attacking players or players looking for additional power. - Control / feel-oriented strings
➜ Greater precision and a more responsive feel.
➜ Suitable for technical players. - Durable strings
➜ Better resistance to wear and repeated hitting.
➜ Perfect for frequent and intensive players.
2️⃣ String Gauge
- Thin (1.20–1.25 mm)
➜ Greater feel and power.
➜ Wears more quickly. - Thicker (1.30 mm and above)
➜ Greater durability, with slightly less feel.
3️⃣ String Tension (kg)
String tension is a key factor:
- Low tension (9–10 kg)
➜ Greater power and comfort. - Medium tension (10–11 kg)
➜ An ideal balance for most players. - High tension (11–12 kg)
➜ Greater control and precision.
➜ Recommended for advanced players.
👉 An unsuitable string tension can reduce feel or cause unnecessary arm fatigue.
